Section 2 Test 1

To get an instruction permit, you must pass both a knowledge test and a vision test.

Minors must hold an instruction permit for at least 6 months before they can schedule a behind-the-wheel driving test.

Minors must complete at least 50 hours of driving practice with a licensed adult, 10 of which must be at night.

Minors can take the behind-the-wheel driving test at 16 years old, after meeting other requirements.

To apply for an instruction permit, you need to provide two proofs of residency to show you live in California

You can apply for a California instruction permit at 15½ years old.

If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign your instruction permit application and accept financial responsibility.

The adult supervising a minor must be at least 25 years old and have a valid California driver’s license.

If you are under 18 years old, you must complete a driver education program before applying for your instruction permit

In addition to driver education, minors must complete driver training before applying for a driver’s license.
